Be My Guest: Katie Louise Ford

A while ago, when I met Katie's blog first, she was on a big journey around USA. At that time, I couldn't
stop scrolling down on her blog to see more about her natural adventures, inspirational stories and film
photos taken during her travels.

Even she gave us enough inspiration to plan our American roadtrip for the next summer! Since I
discovered her blog, her life has changed like all of us; she moved to a new city, she has changed her hair
color, but Katie's lifestyle is still so inspirational that I follow with an excitement in this "bloggers world" :)
If you want to do "time-travel"  into the oldies, to have a feeling of Australian life, and to dream away with
30's, be sure to check her lovely blog.
Now it's time to leave you with Katie's answers.

LIFE
* What do you do for a living?
I run a small handmade clothing label, work as a seamstress is a French Antique company and also do
freelance costume design. All in all, I like to keep my hands very busy!

What are the 3 specific things you like to do?
-Swill champagne
-Make love
-Tap dance

Which movie you never get bored of watching?
Follow the Fleet with Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. I first saw it as a 14 year old and have seen it
more times then I can count. I'm fairly confidently when I say that I know the entire script off my heart.

Which song makes you happy?
You and Me by Penny and the Quarters is my all time fav.  I've also been singing "Gooble Gobble, one of us"  from the 1932 film "Freaks" for 3 days straight so I feel like that deserves a mention too.

* What are your inspirations in life?
My sweetheart and I are currently working on a 1930s inspired clothing range due out this summer, as well
as a vaudeville act which we'll be performing at Sydney Fringe this September. I'll be making all of the
costumes as well as flitting about on stage. We are also planning on moving to London next year which I'm
positively giddy about.

STYLE

How do you describe your style?
Ever evolving. At the moment I'm channelling a lot of 1930's vamp vibes as a result of my recently
peroxided hair.

*  If your style is a movie character who would she/he be?
A combination of Ginger Rogers and Jean Harlow, my very favourite dames of the Silver Screen.

* If you have a color palette, which colors you put together to create your style?
It's currently winter in Australia so I'm wearing a lot of neutrals. Browns and Greys are on high rotation this
season.

CITY

Where do you live right now?
Marrickville; a quaint little suburb in Sydney, Australia.

What are the 3 local suggestions for people who want to visit your neighborhood?
1. Addison Road Markets on a Sunday. I mainly go to pat all the neighbourhood dogs
and Shetland ponies but theres lots of great fresh produce, vintage and greenery to purchase too.
2. Daisy's Milk Bar has just opened up round the corner and is cute as a button! Its pretty much the
1950s milk bar of my dreams with pastels walls, handsome staff and super delicious food.
3. As a late night kebab lover I feel like Victoria Yeeros also deserves a mention because who doesn't
love naughty kebab after a few too many shandies?

* Which city do you want to live for the future?
Although I've never visited before, I'm hoping London will be as great as everyone keeps telling me and I'll
never want to leave. I also wouldn't mind moving back to New York at some point in my life. I really miss
bagels, PBR and Central Park much more than I'd anticipated.

Thanks Katie

Be My Guest: Bethan from The Pale Female

This time I want to introduce Bethan from The Pale Female to you. I don't remember when exactly, but
the time I saw her cute fashion blog, I flew away with some sweet London dreams... To be honest,
I always have a grey image of London when I think about there (maybe because it was always raining
when I was there), but Bethan's pictures make me think differently now.

She is always so good to combine girly pieces together with some magic :) Her clothes and style remind
me "Picnic at Hanging Rock" movie and some old Victorian fashion mags. Lace, hats, crowns, tartan &
flower patterns and of course collars make her style more distinct and more "the pale female".

Now it's time to leave you with her answers to my questions, and also some beautiful images to see what I
mean above! :)

LIFE
* What do you do for a living?

I am a writer most evenings of the week, writing short stories, novellas and blog posts. But during the days
I am a healthcare advisor in a beautiful part of London. It makes me really happy there.

What are the 3 specific things you like to do?
Write, press flowers and dress up. Three things I have loved doing since I was young. My handbag is
always filled with notebooks and laced with picked petals.

Which movie you never get bored of watching?
A LittlePrincess, the aesthetic is amazing, as is the music and the story line is just so lovely. It makes me
very nostalgic and I could watch it every day.

Which song makes you happy?
Riverman by Nick Drake, it is the most beautiful song I have ever heard. It makes me so joyful and lets
me daydream.

* What are your inspirations in life?
To become a published author, I would love to complete writing a huge book and it be put on dusty
shelves in shops and libraries.

STYLE

How do you describe your style?
Very colourful and girly. I adore anything with lace, trims, cuffs and velvet. If it is in a bright or bold shade
too then I am bound to fall in love with it.

*  If your style is a movie character who would she/he be?
Probably Valerie, from "Valerie and Her Week of Wonders". The film itself is very strange but the
dresses are so pretty and I definitely have similar items in my wardrobe.

* If you have a color palette, which colors you put together to create your style?

White, blue and green. I like mixing bright white tones with dark murky colours, I think those are my
favourite combinations of colours in an ensemble.

CITY

Where do you live right now?
London, I have done for about five years now and have still only explored a very small part of it

What are the 3 local suggestions for people who want to visit your neighborhood?
Hampstead, the houses are so immaculate and ivy terraces creep up most walls. The heath with its lakes is
vast and the perfect picnic spot in summer.
Camden is also a fun place to visit, consisting of endless market stalls, takeaway food and loads of quirky
people. The town is always bustling with excitement and something interesting is always taking place.
Kensington has the most amazing museums and vintage shops. If you love cake, retro clothes and brushing
up on your natural history then this is the perfect place for you to browse.

* Which city do you want to live for the future?
I lived in Paris briefly and can honestly say I have never felt more at home anywhere else. I hope to move
there within the next three years, as soon as I have learnt a bit of French.
Thanks Bethan

Be My Guest: Ayşin from Old Magnet

This time, Ayşin who is the founder of an online magazine; Old Magnet in Istanbul is my blog's guest.
Once I attented to an event of Kinfolk Mag, we met each other, then I start to see her in one event to
another, especially the ones with "good food" :)

Before our Berlin trip, I took a visit to her cute house which is full of second hand and vintage objects in
Kuzguncuk; one of my favorite neighborhoods in Istanbul. The sun was going down, and we were still not
so tired to explore around of her lovely neighborhood. Let's take a look over this inspirational lady's
answers and her online magazine; Old Magnet!

LIFE
* What do you do for a living?
I write, read, explore and travel.
What are the 3 specific things you like to do?
Writing, traveling and indulging in good food are most favorite pastimes. I prefer to write for myself rather
than for a commercial outcome. Traveling for me sometimes means to catch a fresh breath, sometimes
it is great for discovering inspiration or sometimes could just be an escape. It seems that my passion for
good food will always continue to lead my life. When the subject is food everything else seems to come
secondary.
Which movie you never get bored of watching?
There are too many… I have a lot of movies I like to watch again and again. To name a
few: The Dreamers, Candy, Amores Perros, Belle de Jour and Laurence Anyways.
Which song makes you happy?
If I were faced to answer this question before my new record player entered my life I would have
said Northern. At the moment I now am an amateur record collector and I can say all Barış Manço songs
makes me very happy
* What are your inspirations in life?
I could say most of my inspirations are formed through imagination, so mostly one thing leads to another
through my head. Movies, music and places I’ve been play a great role as well.
STYLE

How do you describe your style?
I’m sick of tired "vintage" word. We know there is no real vintage mostly. But I like to explore a little
with more freedom so I prefer to keep my style less defined.
*  If your style is a movie character who would she/he be?
Margot, from the Royal Tenenbaums.

* If you have a color palette, which colors you put together to create your style?

I like burgundy and black. I like pastels for when the sun is shining but during winter months I feel better
in darker shades.
CITY

Where do you live right now?
Istanbul, the midst of chaos.
What are the 3 local suggestions for people who want to visit your neighborhood?
Çiya in Kadıköy is the right place to experience Ottoman cuisine. I love this great Turkish ravioli place.
Kardeşim Mantı in Emirgan. Lastly, Siirt Şeref Biryan in Fatih is great for their long roasted
lamb kebab and local rice speciality as a side serving.
* Which city do you want to live for the future?
Possibly Sydney or Barcelona. Sydney might be a closer bet as my elder sister is currently settled there.

Thanks Ayşin

Be My Guest: The Cat You & Us

I'm happy to host The Cat You & Us for "Be My Guest" corner of my blog, cause this blog is one of my
favorites! Damaris and Dani from The Cat You and Us share the most sincere moments of their life that
you can feel "carpe diem" through their captures! Also their cat; Juno is a very important family member
of this lovely blog. So, if you're a fan of cats, be ready to crave for a cat when you read over the posts.

They love to travel, explore their city; Barcelona, laugh with joy and craft whenever they find a concept.
That's why this blog is a place full of joy and inspiration rather than just an online diary. I want to let you
read their answers now and I suggest that you check their blog to see how they are an inspirational couple.
Enjoy!

LIFE
* What do you do for a living?
Both: Photography, blogging, travel, watching movies, crafts and cuddling with our cat Juno are a few of
the things that make our life worth living. And to pay those we have a full time computer-related office job,
hahaha; anyhow we have always flirted on the idea of a freelance photography job.

What are the 3 specific things you like to do?
Damaris:  As a Pinterest maniac, I like to be surrounded by pretty things. That’s why I always have new
decoration plans or endless craft projects lists.

Dani: I’m an obsessive guy, periodically I get a new obsession and all my life spins around that thing.
Currently I have read everything there is written about homemade bread/pizza dough. I love to get caught
into that endless learning spiral (sometimes, or always if you ask Damaris, quite useless knowledge).

Juno: She likes to chases sticky things like washi tape. She loathes to touch it but at the same time is
fascinating for her.

Which movie you never get bored of watching?
Damaris: Because I am a huge movies’ fan, it’s so hard for me to choose only one from my top ten list.
Instead, I would say a TV show: Friends. Challenge to identify a quote ON ;)

Dani: Movie fan here as well. In fact sharing this hobby with Damaris is one of the things making me happy
every day.  I’d choose Lost in Translation by Sofia Coppola

Which song makes you happy?
Both: Our wedding song; “Poscards from Italy” by Beirut. It was our ceremony entrance song, which
we rehearsed several times at home using our bedrooms’ corridor simulating the aisle. The trumpets were
our trigger to cross the door and make the first appearance in front of our family & friends; nowadays that
part of the song make us giggly!

* What are your inspirations in life?
Damaris: My ultimate inspiration is my mom who was the bravest making a life for the two of us by herself.
I also admire all that talented people (which populate the blogosphere!) that are step by step living their
dream.

Dani: Although I am going to surely embarrass her, my inspiration in life is my beloved wife, who has the
talent of doing everything beautiful and perfect, seriously! She has a beautiful heart and achieves all she
proposes with skill (and effort!). At the same time, the internet is the best place to meet new talents and
tendencies. Most of our photographic inspiration comes from young photographers we have been following
all this years over the Internet, like Max Wagner, Arrow & Apple, Carissa & Andrew Gallo or Amanda
Jones among so many others.

STYLE

How do you describe your style?
Damaris: I adore American 50's dresses (I got married in one!) which I alternate with French stripped
t-shirts & a-line skirts styled with lots of Japanese geek motives. If it wasn’t so far my closet will entirely be
purchased at Shimokitazawa and Harajuku vintage stores (Tokyo) :)

Dani: Damaris usually takes more risk in her styling choices, but I’m more into Lumberjack nerd style.

Juno: Fluffiest nudism.

*  If your style is a movie character who would she/he be?
Damaris: Summer of 500 days of Summer meets Amelie.

Dani: Scott Pilgrim will be my reality although my expectactions would be Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones ;)

Juno: Garfield.

* If you have a color palette, which colors you put together to create your style?
Damaris: Dani and Juno leave me all alone answering this question as it seems I should have a better
idea of my color palette than they have of theirs. It changes a lot but it usually includes pastels
(current huge obsession with turquoise and pink) and black and white always in form of stripes.

CITY

Where do you live right now?
The three of us live in the lively city of Barcelona.

What are the 3 local suggestions for people who want to visit your neighborhood?
Both: After a large discussion we have decided to suggest three shops, three restaurants and three must
(local point) visits.
One of our favorite decor shops is Verdejade, a little shop in Gracia; Flamingo vintage, their newest store
at the end of Tallers St.; and finally the MACBA Laie bookstore, for its photography & design books and
little beautiful odds and ends.

Eating is our favorite indulgence and luckily our city has so much to offer in this territory. We have chosen a
representative place of our most usual gastronomies: gourmet burgers at Filete Ruso, located at one of the
trendiest streets; yummy tapas at Bar Velòdrom and hot comfort japanese soup at Ramen-ya Hiro.
If you ever come to Barcelona we would recommend off the tourist track the photography gallery at the
Palau de la Virreina, free entrance and awesome old building; to wander around the streets between Via
Laietana and Avinyó St behind Plaça Sant Jaume (we took our wedding session there!) instead of the
most crowded ones next to the cathedral, and book a visit to Palau Güell, the less known Güell house but
equally breathtaking.

* Which city do you want to live for the future?
Both: Although our hearts belong at long term to Barcelona, we have butterflies in our stomach at the
thought of living in Brooklyn or Tokyo.

Thanks Damaris, Dani and Juno
